You can restrict delivery of orders to specific postcodes using the freight area of the shopping cart.
While the online customer will be able to choose another billing address, the delivery options available in the drop down menu of the checkout area will be limited to the options you have chosen.
- Navigate to the freight area of the shopping cart via the Setup Options > Freight / Shipping Fees
- Add a new freight destination,
- Expand the "Address / Location Filters"
- Enter your target postcodes in Post Code Filter
- Or exclude unwated postcodes in Post Code Exclusions
- You can be more efficient by only entering the prefix for each code, and you must use commas to separate codes.
- Each shipping option will only be valid if the postcodes match.
- Specify any other relevant settings
How the postcode match works
NZ and Australia postcodes are easy. Each is 4 digits long. Other countries have more complicated postcode syntax, that may include spaces and very fined grained targeting.
A sample English postcode is: SM1 4FW
Our postcode filter matches by the start of each filter. If you provide the following filters, this would match mostly English postcodes, and exclude other areas.
AL,BA,BN,CB,CM,CO,CR,DA,EC,EN,GU,HA,HP,IG,IP,KT,LU,ME,MK,MN,NW,OX,RG,RH,RM,SE,SG,SL,SM,SN,SO,SP,SS,SW,TW,UB,WC,WD,E1,E2,E3,E4,E5,E6,E7,E8,E9,N1,N2,N3,N4,N5,N6,N7,N8,N9,S1,S2,S3,S4,S5,S6,S7,S8,S9,W1,W2,W3,W4,W5,W6,W7,W8,W9,M1,M2,M3,M4,M5,M6,M7,M8,M9
Avoid Single Character Matches
Even though the prefix for london postcodes might be simply a single character, eg (W,E,S,N). This would however match more postcodes that you expected. It might match any postcode starting with S, including 2 letter codes. So to cleanly target only london postcodes, expand to 2 characters by adding a digit
E1,E2,E3,E4,E5,E6,E7,E8,E9,N1,N2,N3,N4,N5,N6,N7,N8,N9,S1,S2,S3,S4,S5,S6,S7,S8,S9,W1,W2,W3,W4,W5,W6,W7,W8,W9
Likewise Manchester
